Southeast, New York – On August 19, 2015, New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Brewster barracks arrested Omar Hassan, 24 years old, of Cortlandt, New York, for Identity Theft 1st Degree, a Class D Felony, and two counts of Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification Information 3rd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

State Police in Brewster received several reports during the month of July from residents who had valuables, including credit cards, stolen from their unlocked vehicles. It was then discovered that the stolen credit cards were being used at various locations throughout lower Westchester County.  Following a detailed investigation, Hassan was identified as a suspect.

Hassan was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and remanded to Putnam County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail or $20,000 bond.

Numerous agencies including the Mount Pleasant Police Department, Peekskill Police Department and the State Police in Somers and Cortlandt have charges pending against Hassan for incidents within their jurisdictions. Hassan’s parole is also in the process of revocation.

The State Police would like to advise residents to lock their vehicles and not store valuable property within their cars.
