Buffalo Woman Charged with Smuggling Drugs into Greenhaven Correctional Facility

BEEKMAN, NY – A 60-year-old woman from Buffalo is facing multiple charges after authorities say she attempted to smuggle drugs and other contraband into Greenhaven Correctional Facility in Dutchess County.

Following a detailed investigation, law enforcement officials identified the woman as Dawn Jones-Mills, a visitor to the prison located in the Town of Beekman. Investigators allege that she brought more than 200 pills and 26 pieces of legal paper treated with an unknown substance into the facility.

Serious Felony Charges Filed

As a result of the incident, Jones-Mills was arrested and charged with:

  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell (felony)

  • Knowingly introducing contraband into a prison (felony)

  • Two counts of promoting prison contraband (misdemeanors)

Authorities have not yet confirmed the specific type of pills or the substance found on the paper, but both are believed to be intended for distribution within the correctional facility.

Jones-Mills was arraigned in court and released on her own recognizance. She is expected to appear in court again at a later date.

Ongoing Investigation

Police say the investigation remains active as they work to determine the origin and intended recipients of the smuggled materials. Officials have not commented on whether additional arrests are expected or if inmates may be involved.

The Department of Corrections has tightened its screening procedures following the incident, and further charges may follow depending on the results of toxicology testing and surveillance review.
