A 65-year-old man was seriously injured in a gas-related explosion in Charlotte Hall, Maryland, on Monday evening, September 15, 2025. Authorities say the man was airlifted to a Washington, D.C., burn center after suffering significant injuries to his upper body.
How the Explosion Happened
The incident occurred when the victim poured gasoline on wood, which suddenly ignited and caused an explosion. According to reports, the blast resulted in burns to the man’s face, arms, and hands.
Around 5:20 p.m., the injured man sought treatment at MedStar Urgent Care in Charlotte Hall. Recognizing the severity of his injuries, medical staff requested an emergency airlift for advanced care.
Emergency Response
The Maryland State Police Aviation Command quickly dispatched Trooper 7, a medevac helicopter, to the area. Meanwhile, firefighters from the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to secure a landing zone for the aircraft. Their Engine Tanker 24 crew assisted in making sure the transfer could happen safely and efficiently.
Once stabilized, the victim was flown to MedStar Washington Hospital Center in the nation’s capital, a facility equipped to handle severe burn cases.
Current Condition and Investigation
Authorities have not released further details about the man’s condition following transport. The incident is under investigation, though officials have confirmed it was caused by the use of gasoline to accelerate a fire.
