Local Students Awarded Scholarships

ONEONTA, NY (07/15/2015)(readMedia)– SUNY Oneonta has awarded scholarships to 270 freshman and five transfer students who will begin their studies at SUNY Oneonta in the fall 2015 semester. Since 2000, the college and its related College at Oneonta Foundation have more than tripled the number of scholarships available to SUNY Oneonta students, and more than $4 million is awarded each year.

Increasing the impact scholarships have in the lives of students was a priority of Possibilities Full of Promise, the 125th Anniversary Campaign for SUNY Oneonta, which concluded June 30, 2015, raising approximately $1 million more than its goal and helping to push the college’s endowment over $50 million.

The following area students received scholarships to attend SUNY Oneonta this fall:

Steven Brundage of Patterson (12563) received the Elin Stene Scholarship in the amount of $1875 per year. Brundage, who plans to major in Music Industry, is a graduate of Carmel High School.

Alexandria Cropley of Dover Plains (12522) received the Janet Perna ’70 Women in Technology Scholarship in the amount of $1075 per year. Cropley, who plans to major in Adolescence Education: Math, is a graduate of Dover Junior-Senior High School.

Nicole Paradise of Poughquag (12570) received the Catskill Scholarship in the amount of $4000 per year. Paradise, who plans to major in Fashion, is a graduate of Arlington Senior High School.

Jenna Serio of Pawling (12564) received the Presidential Scholarship in the amount of $6470 per year. Serio, who plans to major in Computer Science, is a graduate of Pawling High School.

Jaime Talamo of Patterson (12563) received the Janet Perna ’70 Women in Technology Scholarship in the amount of $1075 per year. Talamo, who plans to major in Biology, is a graduate of Pawling High School.

Emily Thompson of Amenia (12501) received the Presidential Scholarship in the amount of $6470 per year. Thompson, who plans to major in Communication Studies, is a graduate of Stissing Mountain Junior-Senior High School.
