Shorty King’s Rhythm Revue To Play At

Pawling Music By The Lake Concert Series on July 25

On Saturday, July 25, the Pawling Music By The Lake Summer Concert Series will present a free concert featuring the band Shorty King’s Rhythm Revue”.

Shorty King’s Rhythm Revue is a quartet of seasoned musicians specializing in Jump, Swing and early Rhythm & Blues. The band has its roots in the changing musical scene of America’s post-war years, when bebop drove big band musicians in new directions; blues and country artists began experimenting with amplification; gospel music began to make its way out of the churches; and boutique record labels presented new voices to a growing audience of music lovers. Out of these diverse voices came a slew of new sounds and the primal scream that became Rock & Roll.

An evening with Shorty King’s Rhythm Revue is like a trip in a rock & roll time machine, where you can jump with the likes of Louis Jordan, Big Joe Turner, Wynonie Harris and Ray Charles. Throw in some three- and four-part singing, jazz straight up and a smattering of rockabilly and New Orleans sounds, and you’ve got a rollicking revue of great American music that changed a generation.

Band members are: Mark Hollenbeck (guitar, vocals); Carl Hayano (bass, vocals); Chris Kaiser (drums); and Shorty King (saxophones and vocals).

Music By The Lake concerts are held on Saturdays at 6:00pm at the Pavilion at Lakeside Park. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be held in the adjoining Lathrop building. As always, all concerts are FREE!

So bring your picnic baskets, coolers, blankets and folding chairs and join us on July 25 at 6pm to enjoy an evening of jump, swing, and early rhythm & blues with “Shorty King’s Rhythm Revue”.
