New York State Police release results of increased traffic enforcement over 4th of July weekend

The New York State Police enforcement for the holiday weekend began on July 3 and continued through July 6, 2015. State Police issued 10,759 tickets during the campaign.

During the crackdown, State Police targeted impaired drivers and distracted driving, speeding, move over violations and motorists who were not buckled up.

Of the tickets issued, 4,523 were for speeding, 621 child restraint and seatbelt violations, 186 move over tickets, and 310 for distracted driving.

Troopers arrested 198 people for DWI during this crackdown. Troopers conducted sobriety checkpoints and more than 12,885 vehicles passed through. Seventeen of the motorists stopped were arrested for DWI, 205 were arrested for other violations.

Troopers investigated a total of 722 accidents, compared to last year’s 661. In these crashes, 198 people were injured, and two people were killed.
