Dutchess County War Memorial Funds Transferred to County

Dutchess County Legislature Chairman Robert Rolison, Director of Veterans Services Nelson Eddy Rivera, County Executive Marc Molinaro, Andy Mihan and William Gannon, who served as Treasurer and Chairman, respectively, of the former Dutchess County War Memorial Committee, which was dissolved following the transfer of the War Memorial to the County.

This afternoon at the Dutchess County Division of Veterans’ Service office in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, Legislature Chairman Rob Rolison, and Director of Veterans’ Services Nelson Eddy Rivera joined with members of the former Dutchess County War Memorial to officially transfer funds to Dutchess County Government for the ongoing maintenance of the Dutchess County War Memorial located at the intersection of Main Street and Raymond Avenue Extension in the Town of Poughkeepsie.    The Dutchess County War MemorialOwnership of the memorial was transferred to the County in November 2014.     The Dutchess County War Memorial Fund was created in 1986 to build and maintain the memorial.   The fund includes donations received over the years from individual donors and an annual fund raiser by Arlington American Legion post 1302.  The fund has paid for the cost for two annual events (Memorial Day and Veterans Day) and upkeep for the Memorial.

This year’s Memorial Day ceremony at the Dutchess County War Memorial will be held on Monday, May 25th at 11am.    All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
