Obituary, June Martin

MILLBROOK – June Violet Martin (nee Simko) age 93, passed away peacefully away at home on Monday, January 7, 2019. She was born on June 22, 1925, in Union City, NJ to Andrew and Margaret Simko. Previously of Cooperstown, NY, June had been a resident of Millbrook since 2000.

June married George H. Martin on October 16, 1946. He predeceased her in 2002.

Before becoming a full-time mother of eight, she worked at the Tootsie Roll factory in Hoboken,NJ and thus had a penchant for Tootsie Rolls all her life. In her younger days June loved going to the movie theater and often times would spend all day watching one movie after the other.

Music was one of June’s passions. She loved to sing and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church Choir in Cooperstown, NY as well as the Farmer’s Museum’s Chorus.

She loved long walks, watching the birds that visited her bird feeders, dancing, reading and horses.

June would much rather brave the cold and snows of winter than the hot humid days of summer. She was a good cook and an accomplished baker. Preparing three meals a day for ten people was no easy task, but one which she faithfully carried out for many years.

In her later years, June enjoyed watching T.V. especially old time game shows, movies, and football. She was an avid New England Patriots fan and Tom Brady was “her guy”.

Hearing news of her eight children, 14 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren brought her great joy.

June had a great love for her country and would proudly display the American Flag outside her home each day.

June is predeceased by her husband George, daughter June Martin Senft, son-in-law, Michael Denick and granddaughter, June Moloughney. June is survived by her children, Lorraine Denick of Poughquag,NY, George Martin and his wife Cathy of Point Pleasant, NJ, Patty Jaz and husband Andy of Cape Cod, MA, Mary Martin of Stanfordville,NY, Kathleen Martin of Brick,NJ, John Martin of Pleasant Valley and James Martin of Toms River, NJ; fourteen grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

June’s work is done here on earth. ” Well done good and faithful servant …… enter into the joy of your Master.” Matt 25:23
