Cortlandt man arrested for domestic violence

Cortlandt, New York – On October 15, 2018, the New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks arrested Anton D. Birnel, age 18, of Cortlandt, for Criminal Contempt in the 1stdegree, Criminal Mischief in the 3rd degree, both class E felonies, and Criminal Mischief in the 4th degree, a class A misdemeanor.

On October 15, 2018, just after midnight, Troopers were dispatched to Lexington Avenue in the town of Cortlandt for a domestic dispute.  Investigation found Birnel engaged in a physical domestic dispute with the victim who was protected by an order of protection issued by the city of Peekskill Court.  During the course of the dispute Birnel punched holes in the walls of the residence, and disabled the phone to prevent the victim from calling for help.

Birnel was arraigned before the town of Cortlandt Court, and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.  Birnel is next scheduled to appear before the Court on October 22, 2018, at 9:00 a.m.
