Honors Dutchess County Employee
Kyle Hunt receives first State Telecommunicator of the Year Award
Dutchess County welcomed more than 100 emergency coordinators, first responders, and communications industry experts to the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel for the New York 911 Coordinators Association Fall Conference on September 25th-27th. Members of the association represent all 62 New York counties and its bi-annual meetings provide training and networking opportunities; industry updates from State and Federal partners; and a vendor showcase of the latest equipment and technology available. The conference also featured an awards luncheon on Wednesday, where Dutchess County Public Safety Dispatcher Kyle Hunt received the Association’s first-ever Telecommunicator of the Year Award.
Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said, “Dutchess County is home to a number of fantastic locations that specialize in hosting corporate and group events, including The Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. We are pleased to welcome the men and women of the emergency coordination industry and I hope they had the opportunity to experience some of what makes us Distinctly Dutchess. Congratulations to Kyle Hunt on this much-deserved recognition, we are grateful to him and the entire Dutchess County Emergency Response team for their tireless dedication to their duty and our County.”
Mr. Hunt joined Dutchess County Emergency Response as a Public Safety Dispatcher in 2005. Public Safety Dispatchers are responsible for receiving and prioritizing emergency and non-emergency calls from the public; transmitting information to police, firefighters, EMS, and other first responders; and dispatching appropriate emergency services as quickly as possible, as well as maintaining radio communications with personnel during the emergency and maintaining accurate records of all calls. Mr. Hunt’s 13-year career has been highlighted by service commendations from callers, fellow responders, and supervisors alike for his dedication and professionalism. Mr. Hunt’s passion for public safety extends into his personal life, including volunteering with Team Rubicon for disaster relief efforts in Haiti and the Philippines, working as a trainer with the New York State Preparedness Training Center, and serving as a volunteer firefighter.
Dutchess County Commissioner of Emergency Response Dana Smith said, “We are proud to welcome the Association back to Dutchess County and celebrate the achievements of our own Kyle Hunt. It’s the devotion of individuals like Mr. Hunt who help us deliver the best and most efficient services to Dutchess County residents.”
Kelly Donoghue, New York State 911 Coordinators Association President and Clinton County Office of Emergency Services Assistant Director, said, “These conferences give us the opportunity to share information and provide a different perspective on the issues and problems that 911 centers face. We are grateful to Dutchess County, the City of Poughkeepsie, and the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel for welcoming us this year. We are proud to expand the program this year with the Telecommunicator of the Year award as we continue to honor the accomplishments, sacrifice, and leadership shown by these men and women every day.”
