Statement from Antonio Delgado on
the Anniversary of the 9/11 Attacks
Today, we reflect on a tragic day that we, as Americans, will never forget. Seventeen years ago nearly 3,000 lives – mothers and fathers, daughters and sons – were cruelly taken from us in the September 11th attacks. As Americans, we mourn our shared loss and honor the sacrifices made by first responders and those who carried out heroic acts to prevent further suffering in the face of evil.
We remember the bravery of those we lost, but we also reflect on the unity and desire to help one another that brought us together that day and the many days that followed. Our collective response – one of service, selflessness and empathy – brought out the best of what it means to be an American.
Many of our local firefighters, law enforcement officials and health professionals traveled to New York City to do whatever they could to save lives and ease the pain. In upstate New York, places of worship, schools and community centers collected donations and supplies. We came together as Americans to do what we could to help one another.
Today, as we honor the memory of those we lost and find strength in our ability to overcome tragedy, let us continue to answer to our better angels and continue to unite as Americans.
