On the 17th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001

Statement from Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro

“Our nation will never forget those innocent lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, and our dogged pursuit of freedom is their enduring legacy. We extend our thoughts and prayers to the families who live with unimaginable loss, and we as a community will forever hold them in our hearts.

“In the hours and days that followed events of 9/11, the shadow of incomprehensible evil gave way to the brightest light of humanity: first responders selflessly searching for survivors, strangers coming to the aid of people they’d never met, differences cast aside for the benefit of humanity – one city, one state, one nation, united.

“The acts of those murderers do not define us; our strength and resolve following them do. We will never escape the horror of that fateful day, but we’re buoyed by our nation’s resolve to ensure such tragedy doesn’t befall its people ever again. May God grant eternal blessings to the innocent families who were irrevocably affected – men and women whose spouses never returned home, boys and girls who lost parents, and the continued loss of first responders from WTC illnesses – and may we as a nation always observe this day with solemnity.”
