PRC Walkathon Receives Community Support

By Susan Stone

Saturday, September 22, will be a busy day in the Village of Pawling. Among the many fun and worthwhile events taking place on that day will be the Pawling Resource Center’s 11th Annual Walkathon, in support of the PRC’s signature transportation programs. Resource Center volunteers regularly transport residents to medical appointments, grocery shopping, and visits to the PRC food pantry. This past year has seen a dramatic increase in the need for these and the many other services the PRC offers to neighbors in need. The center receives partial funding from the Dutchess County Office for the Aging and United Way of Dutchess – Orange Region for the transportation programs, but additional funds are needed to continue these essential services. The “Walk So They May Ride” event is the PRC’s major fundraiser.

The PRC is grateful to the many local businesses and organizations that, as of this writing, have donated to or become sponsors of this event. Platinum Sponsors include Pawling Engineered Products, Health Quest, Sweet Peet of New York, and the Pawling Resource Center Board of Directors. Gold Sponsors include Fayne & Ross Daniels, Ingersoll Auto and Dan Daniels. Silver Sponsors are Sheriff Butch Anderson, Dr. Salvatore DiGrandi, Joseph Meunier & Sons, and Putnam Ridge. Bronze Sponsors include The Book Cove, Danosky Associates, Dutchess Auto Body, Fountain Plumbing, JPL Glass, KFC, Patterson Auto Body, Pawling House Bed & Breakfast, Shed Haus, Dr. Patrice Thornton, Utter Brothers, Western Connecticut Health Network, and Wings Over Water. Additionally, many in the community have donated goods and services in order to make this event a success. They include Jeremy Busolt and Friends, McGrath’s Tavern, Amaxx, JTI, Millenium Printing, Parrino’s, and Eastern Hay. Music will be provided by Jay Erickson, Julie Holland, and Jeremy Wolff.

Finally, several teams have already signed on to raise funds and walk. They include teams from Emery & Webb, Pawling Rotary, Inner Balance Studio, and Trinity-Pawling. Additional teams are currently being formed.

Registration will begin at 11:00 a.m., and participants will start walking down the route through the village at 11:30 a.m. Immediately following the walk, a Bar-B-Que will be held for all participants, sponsors, and volunteers on the lawn of the Resource Center, located at 126 East Main Street in Pawling. Overflow parking will be available at the Pawling Commons and at the Mizzentop School lot. Teams that are walking together might consider meeting at the lot and driving one car up to the PRC.

All those who want to join in are encouraged to preregister. Sponsor forms are available at http://PawlingResourceCenter.org.  Call the Resource Center for information at (845) 855-3459.
