MRC of Dutchess Presents Amateur Radio Program on September 6th

Poughkeepsie … The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) of Dutchess County will offer a presentation on how to be familiar with and get involved with Amateur (HAM) Radio. This presentation will take place on Thursday, September 6th, at 7 p.m., at the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response, 392 Creek Road in Poughkeepsie.  The training is free, and the public is welcome to attend.  Registration prior to the event is required.

Dutchess County Department of Behavioral & Community Health Commissioner A. K. Vaidian, MD, MPH, said, “If residents have an interest in becoming a HAM radio operator, want to brush up on or obtain radio skills, or wish to become a member of the MRC radio team, we encourage you to attend this class.”

The program, Adam P. Nowik, (KC2DAA) ARRL EC/RACES Radio Officer, Dutchess County, will include the different types of licenses and radios, how to obtain an amateur radio license, the many established clubs and organizations for amateur radio operators, and how HAM radio operators assist in emergencies.  This presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.  Current HAM operators are welcome to attend.

The Medical Reserve Corps of Dutchess County is part of a national network of more than 200,000 volunteers dedicated to supporting public health infrastructure as well as disaster preparedness and response in the community.  Both medical professionals and non-medical volunteers are needed.
