Heat Advisory issued August 29 at 5:00AM EDT until August 29 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Albany DESCRIPTION: ...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING... * Location...The Greater Capital District including the Saratoga and Glens Falls areas, Mohawk Valley, Mid Hudson Valley, Taconics, Helderbergs, western Ulster County, the Berkshires, northwestern Connecticut and southern Vermont. * Heat Index Values...In the mid 90s to low 100s due to temperatures in the low to mid 90s, and dewpoints in the lower 70s. * Timing...late this morning into this evening. * Impacts...The combination of heat and high humidity levels pose a significant risk for heat stress or other heat related illnesses particularly to those most vulnerable. INSTRUCTIONS: A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids...stay in an air-conditioned room...stay out of the sun...and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions...if you work or spend time outside. When possible...reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. To reduce risk during outdoor work...the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
