Obituary, Charles Patrick Mahony

Stanfordville – Charles Patrick Mahony of Stanfordville, NY and Indian Lake, NY passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018 at the age of 77. He was born to the late Joseph and Mary Mahony and was raised in Baldwin, NY. In 1967, he married Carol Ann Hiney, who predeceased him.

Charlie retired as Associate Executive Director from Anderson School. He was beloved by his students and staff, both there and at his prior schools, Astor Home and Greer School. His top priority was the welfare of, as he referred to them, “my kids” and he gave the best of himself to give them the best life possible. To this day, so many of his former students refer to him as a dad to them and it is a great testament to his wonderful character.

Charlie was an avid outdoorsman. Throughout his life, he would spend much of his free time hunting, fishing, camping, hiking or kayaking. His love for the outdoors was a big part of his life. He thoroughly enjoyed living in and exploring the Adirondacks. Charlie’s huge heart and incredible humor live on in our memories.

Charlie is survived by his son, Patrick Mahony of Poughkeepsie, NY, and daughters, Erin Sanchez with her husband William, of Rhinebeck, NY and Quinn Mahony with Nykee Williams of Poughkeepsie, NY. Charlie is also survived by his brother Peter and his wife Bette Lou, of Fincastle, VA, his sister Kathie Pierce and her husband Richard, of Massapequa Park, NY, as well as his beloved in-laws, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family. His siblings, Joseph Mahony, Leo Mahony, Hugh Mahony, Mary Rita Myers, and Daniel Mahony predeceased him.

No formal call hours will be set, however a memorial and celebration of his life is being planned for the near future.
