Smythe Submits Thousands of Petitions Thanks To Hundreds Of Volunteers
Secures More Than Enough Signatures for the Democratic, Working Families, and Women’s Equality Party Lines

(Red Hook, NY) Karen Smythe submitted thousands of petitions yesterday at the State Board of Elections, many times more than required by state law to secure her ballot lines. Achieving this massive number of signatures was possible due to the groundswell of support Karen has received from dedicated volunteers throughout the 41st Senate District and from organized Democratic groups which have endorsed her campaign.

“I am humbled by the outpouring of support for my campaign and very proud of the organization we have built to spread our message throughout the Hudson Valley,” Karen Smythe said. “Hudson Valley families want new representation in the State Senate and real leadership up in Albany, and that is why hundreds of volunteers have come out to help me bring that change. The enthusiasm among volunteers and voters is amazing, and with their support I know we will win in November.”

Karen Smythe submitted petitions to secure the Democratic, Working Families, and Women’s Equality ballot lines for the November General Election. Thanks to the hard work of Karen, the organization she has built, hundreds of volunteers, and local Democratic Party organizations, many times more signatures than required will be submitted to the State Board of Elections. Karen secured nearly five times the number of signatures required for the Democratic Party line, almost three times the signatures for the Working Families Party, and double the signatures for the Women’s Equality Party. This flood of support is part of the ‘blue wave’ that is sweeping the state and nation, and which has already helped dozens of Democrats win seats in local, state, and national elections.

Dutchess County Democratic Committee Chair Elisa Sumner said, “I am thrilled with the energy and enthusiastic support for Karen. Soon we will have a repressive Supreme Court and our state government will be our only hope for protecting women’s reproductive rights. Our current state Senator has actively blocked legislation to protect us. It is imperative that we send Karen Smythe to Albany and in these dark times, it’s encouraging to see that the people are aware and ready to fight to keep our basic human rights, and that starts by voting for Karen.”

Putnam County Democratic Committee Chair James Borkowski said, “The level of enthusiasm we are seeing for Karen Smythe is extraordinary. People are tired of elected officials who go to Albany only to become part of the Albany culture. I look forward to Karen winning in November and being a part of the solution.”
