Dutchess County 2018 Historic Tavern Trail
Summer Lawn Party at the
East Fishkill Historical Society on Friday, July 20th
Poughkeepsie, NY… The Dutchess County 2018 Historic Tavern Trail series continues this month with a special “Summer Lawn Party” on Friday, July 20th at 6:30pm hosted at the East Fishkill Historical Society, one of Dutchess County’s largest municipal historical sites with multiple preserved buildings, a WWI-era touring car and much more.
The Historic Tavern Trail brings history and local cuisine together while introducing the community to iconic locales, with each installment held at a different historic location. The 2018 series focus is “Remembering the Great War: From the Western Front to the Home Front,” exploring a variety of different angles and individual stories of 1914-1920, from the state of local communities before the war to the fate of veterans after the Treaty of Versailles.
The July installment of the Tavern Trail series will feature a picnic-style dinner, courtesy of East Fishkill Provisions and other local donors. The East Fishkill Historical Society site features a lovely green lawn and five historical buildings including the Brinckerhoff House, an ice house, schoolhouse, blacksmith shop and a carriage barn, all of which will be open to tour.
Special bonus features for this installment of the Tavern Trail Series include:
- Introduction of “Tavern Trail Trivia”
- Blacksmith working at his forge
- Baking demonstrations at the recently-completed outdoor bread oven
- 1919 Touring Car
The Tavern Trail is a collaborative endeavor between the Dutchess County Department of History, the Dutchess County Historical Society, and local historical societies to create an innovative program that highlights the county’s rich history.
The next installment of the 2018 Tavern Trail series will be at the Millerton American Legion Hall on September 21st.
