Bronx woman arrested for attempting to smuggle scalpels into Downstate Correctional Facility

PRESS RELEASE

Fishkill, New York – On July 4, 2018, the New York State Police from the Wappinger barracks arrested Charisma M. Gonzalez, age 19, of Bronx, New York, for Promoting Prison Contraband in the 1st degree, a class D felony.

An investigation revealed that Gonzalez possessed two scalpel blades when she entered the Downstate Correctional Facility as a visitor, with the intent to provide them to an inmate.

The New York State Police were assisted by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Office of Special Investigations.

Gonzalez was arraigned at the village of Wappingers Falls Court, and she was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,500 bond. Her next appearance was scheduled for July 10, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., at the town of Fishkill Court.
