Obituary, Gladys Mae DiPippo

 

Gladys Mae DiPippo passed away Monday, June 18, 2018 at The Grand in Pawling; she was 95.

Born in Walden, NY on January 24, 1923, she was the daughter of James and Mildred (Puff) Smith.

A resident of Pawling for the past year, she previously resided in Carmel.  Prior to that, she lived most of her life in New Rochelle, NY.

While her husband Anthony was away serving his country during World War II, Gladys worked in a china factory.  When Anthony returned, they both worked in a dry cleaners, where Gladys did the tailoring at home for many famous people, including Teresa Brewer, Della Reese, and Joe Garagiola.

Gladys was later a secretary at Gries Dynacast in New Rochelle for many years, and was a staunch advocate for Social Security, writing many articles and letters that were printed in the Standard Star Newspaper in New Rochelle.

She is predeceased by her husband, Anthony Michael DiPippo, who passed away on August 1, 1967.  She is also predeceased by her brother, Albert Smith, whom she was very close to, her sisters, Shirley Parisi, Clara Lipton, and Charlotte Doty, and a step-son, Mario DiPippo.

Gladys is survived by two sons, Michael DiPippo of Georgia and Louis DiPippo and wife, Vincenza, of Pelham, NY; two daughters, Patricia Frenza of Pawling and Toni Anne Von Elm and fiancé, Arnfin Olsen, of Carmel, NY; 13 grandchildren, Bill Frenza, Jr, Denise Jenkins, Salvatore & Anthony Petrillo, Jason & Kristin Von Elm, Michelle Brown, Billie Joe & Joshua DiPippo, Lisa Acevedo, Tina Dunne, and Mario & Dawn DiPippo; 28 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY Sunday, June 24th 2-4 and 6-8 PM.  A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home Monday at 10 AM.  Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, New Rochelle, NY.
