Faso Announces Full Slate of New York 19 Academy Nominations

Washington D.C. – Congressman John Faso (R-Kinderhook) today announced the full slate of students who earned nominations to United States Service Academies. Nominees go through a rigorous evaluation process administered by Rep. Faso’s Service Academy Selection Committee.

Each of the five students will be attending the service academy they were nominated to attend. Three nominees will be new cadets at West Point, with one student attending the Naval Academy and one student attending the Air Force Academy. The honor of attending a service academy is accompanied with an obligation to serve in the Armed Forces for a minimum of five years immediately following graduation.

“These five young adults are part of the future crop of American leaders who will guide our country forward,” said Faso. “The academy nomination process is rigorous and extremely competitive.  Each one of these fine individuals earned their way into one of America’s most prestigious schools. They should be commended for their work, and I look forward to their future success.”

List of nominees:

West Point: James Bellucci, Pawling NY – Pawling High School

West Point: Michael Sean Mullally, Jeffersonville NY – Sullivan West High School at Lake Huntington

West Point: Nicholas Mackey, Marlboro NY – Marion Military Institute

Naval Academy: Patrick Melanson, Stone Ridge NY – Rondout Valley High School

Air Force Academy: Heidi Edmonds, Cooperstown NY – Cooperstown Central School

Individuals seeking nomination must meet the following requirements as of July 1 of the year of admission to the Service Academy. He or she must be between 17 and 23 years old, a United States citizen, unmarried, not pregnant, and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents. Applicants wishing to receive a nomination from Congressman Faso must reside in the 19th Congressional District of New York.

The academy nomination process for the upcoming class of applicants is now open and will close on October 31st, 2018. Further information is available here.
