Poughkeepsie man charged after failure to comply

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Stephen Tillery, age 34 of Poughkeepsie, for various charges after a failure to comply that occurred during the early morning hours of 6/15/18.

At approximately 3:20 am on 6/15/18 Mr. Tillery was being interviewed by a Sheriff’s Office Sergeant on Winnikee Ave in the City of Poughkeepsie. At that time he was suspected of being wanted on a NYS Mental Hygiene Law order for emergency hospitalization, which is typically issued when someone is thought to be a danger to themselves and others to the degree that they require immediate treatment. During the interview, Mr. Tillery fled in a vehicle, after which he failed to comply when Deputies and officers from other agencies attempted to stop him. Mr. Tillery continued failing to comply until he reached Interstate 84 and Route 312, where he was ultimately stopped and taken into custody.

At this time Mr. Tillery has been charged with Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Vehicle and Reckless Driving (both misdemeanors), as well as various Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. After being processed he was arraigned before the City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the City of Poughkeepsie Police, Town of Poughkeepsie Police, the New York State Police, and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. As with any criminal case the charges described above are merely accusations and Mr. Tillery is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
