Obituary, John H. Thompson

 

John H. Thompson, 90, recently of Pittsfield, MA formerly of Canaan, NY and Philmont, NY passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield, MA. Mr. Thompson was a farmer at James Chaffee Oblong Valley Farm in South Amenia, NY.

Born on December 23, 1927 in Kent, CT he was the son of the late Morton and Nellie (Kinney) Thompson. Mr. Thompson proudly served in the US Navy during World War II. on December 31, 1947 in Wassaic, NY he married Jean Hansen who predeceased him on September 24, 2012..

Mr. Thompson is survived by his daughter, Candace Morrison and her husband, William, of Millerton, NY; two sons, John E. Thompson of New Lebanon, NY and Peter A. Thompson and his wife, Sharon, of Canaan, NY. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Moriah Morrison Sarvis, Melissa Morrison, Ashley, Colin, Landen and John Thompson and Melanie Andrews and two great-grandchildren, Owen and Ian Henry Andrews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Thompson was predeceased by three brothers, Morton, Howard, Charles Thompson and five sisters, Vivian Schneider, Nellie Thompson, Ella Darrow, Emma Jillson and Harriet Schlander.

Graveside services and burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Flanders Cemetery, Flanders Lane, Kent, CT. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dutchess County ASPCA, 636 Violet Ave, Hyde Park, NY 12538.
