CELEBRATION OF AGING HONORS SENIORS OF THE YEAR

In celebration of Older Americans Month, the Office for the Aging awarded several Dutchess County residents “Senior Citizen of the Year” honors at the annual “celebration of Aging held Monday (5/21/18) in Wappingers Falls. The sold-out event was attended by over 270 Dutchess County residents.
The Office for the Aging hosts the Celebration of Aging each year in order to recognize the outstanding contributions senior citizens make to Dutchess County. Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro presented the Senior Female of the Year award to Patricia Malin of Pleasant Valley, Senior Male of the Year to Ronald Seeley of Hyde Park, and Senior Couple of the Year to Barbara and Ronald Nolan of Pleasant Valley. Receiving a Senior Achievement Award were Joy Godin of Wingdale, and Jack Fenton of Hyde Park.
Also honored at the event were seven Dutchess County couples celebrating marriages of 70 years or more, and nine residents between the ages of 100 and 103.
Special attention was given to the story of Dutchess County’s second-ever documented supercentenarian, Sixta Tulia Aguinaga de Posada of LaGrangeville, who turned 111 in April. A “supercentenarian” is a person who has lived past her 110th birthday, a milestone reached by only one out of every 1000 people who live to age 100. As of today, Tulia is the second-oldest living person in New York State, and the second-oldest Dutchess County resident ever, following Vera Van Wagner who passed away last year at age 113.
