Obituary, Peter Schatz

Peter Schatz, builder of life and love, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at age 74. Born in Hamburg, Germany, he came to America at age 11 with his family seeking a better life, which Pete found. He spent his youth in Pawling, New York, before attending Syracuse University. He was drafted for military service and served briefly before illness sent him home. He then met Barbara Anne Salter, the love of his life and spent the next 52 years as a devoted husband, patient father, and gentle grandfather.

Pete was a master mason and builder, who believed anything and everything is possible. He was a family man with always more to give who taught us the meaning of dedication, persistence, and patience. He made the loveliest bowl of lumpy cream of wheat.

Unwavering in his love of family, he will always be cherished by his beloved wife Barbara, his sister Margrit, his sons Doug and Eric, daughter Kristin, grandchildren Jessica, CJ, Anthony, Rowan, and Gabriel, his extended family and friends, and his favorite felines, Gus and Mitzi.

A celebration of Pete’s life will be held at Tymor Park in the town of Union Vale, NY on Sunday July 22, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
