Obituary, Edward Marona

 

MILLBROOK – Edward “Buddy” Marona, a lifelong resident of Millbrook, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018. He was born in Millbrook NY on July 28, 1932, the son of Clarence and Anna Marona.

Buddy graduated from Millbrook High School, Class of 1950 and lived his entire life in Millbrook except for two years serving in the US Army from 1956-1958 in Baltimore MD.

He was nicknamed Buddy by his sister, and he went by that name from then on. Bud joined the Millbrook Fire Department in 1958 as an honorary member helping out with clambakes and various functions. In 1999 he became a life member of Millbrook Fire Department.

He was a well-known member of the community and beloved by everyone he met. He enjoyed contributing to the community in so many ways. He was a longstanding member of the Millbrook Rescue Squad, the Knights of Columbus, St, Joseph’s Church, and many other groups. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, and he loved summertime when baseball season was in full swing. Buddy also liked golf and spent many weekends on the course. Most of all, Buddy was known for his incredible singing voice. He was a true talent, as anyone who heard his voice will attest. He often sang the Ave Maria at religious services, and also sang jazz and pop. Quite often over the years, he was asked to sing the National Anthem at village events as well as singing at many weddings and funerals.

Buddy spent his working career as a buyer at Marona’s Market in Millbrook. He loved the camaraderie that he felt with the staff and customers.

In recent years, he especially loved attending daily Mass early in the morning and then heading to the Millbrook Diner, where everybody knew his name.

He was predeceased by his parents, Anna and Clarence Marona; wife Elizabeth; brother John Marona; sister in law Agnes Marona; half-sisters Marion Faulkner, Margaret Martin and Alice Remond; brother in law Edmund McLane and brother in law Gregory McLane.

He is survived by his sister Joanne Wuest; son Paul Marona; daughter Cathy Marona Shrestha; son in law Suman Shrestha; grandsons Daniel and Neil Shrestha; sister in law Patricia Hardman (James); sister in law Geraldine McLane; sister in law Frances Doyle (Michael); sister in law Rosemary Frederick, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, May 4 at 1 pm from St. Joseph’s Church, North Ave., Millbrook. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Millbrook.
