NY19 Congressional Candidate Dave Clegg Announces Medicare for All Town Hall Series

(KINGSTON, NY) – Today Dave Clegg, candidate for New York’s 19th Congressional District, announced the launch of his Medicare for All Town Hall Series. The initial tour will consist of five stops across the district in the counties of Sullivan, Ulster, Otsego, Columbia, and Dutchess.

“I’m doing this Medicare for All Town Hall series because I want to hear people’s struggles with our health care system; I want them to know there are people running for office who hear their problems and have a solution, and I want to have a discussion about why we need to pass Medicare for all,” Clegg said on Friday. “I know first hand what it means to have the person you love most in this world have their health insurance taken away, and I don’t want anyone to ever go through what my family and I did – that’s why I support Medicare for all and will fight to my last breath to see it passed.”

Thousands of people across the 19th district are without health care. See below for brief statistics:

The Affordable Care Act improved America’s health care system but it still isn’t close to where it needs to be. Right now the health care system is aimed at boosting profits for insurers, the pharmaceutical industry, and their executives. Clegg knows that by passing Medicare for all the profit motive can be removed from the health care industry and people’s well being can be prioritized instead.

“I can think of no good reason that a company should be allowed to put their bottom line in front of a person’s life. By passing H.R. 676 we can take power back from the pharmaceutical industry and get fair prices on prescription drugs, can make sure we are adequately funding rural health care centers, provide coverage for nursing home care, and dental care.

“Too many hard-working families are without or are struggling to afford health care. With 42 million uninsured Americans and millions more who are underinsured, the time has come to change our costly, inefficient, fragmented and broken system. We can provide quality health care to every American by passing Medicare for all, and do it for less than we’re spending on the system as it is right now,” Clegg concluded.
