Yorktown, New York – On April 19, 2018, the New York State Police from the Hawthorne barracks investigated a personal injury motor vehicle crash on the Taconic State Parkway near exit 14 (Baldwin Road) in the town of Yorktown.

Troopers were dispatched to one car off the roadway that had struck a rock wall on the west shoulder of the southbound Taconic State Parkway near mile marker 14.9.  The vehicle had overturned, and caught fire with the operator, Linda Gironda, age 56, of Yorktown, trapped inside.

Brian Geary, age 30, of East Fishkill, and another unknown passerby stopped to assist Gironda prior to the arrival of emergency services.  With the vehicle locked and Gironda unconscious, Geary utilized a baseball bat from his vehicle to smash the windshield.  Geary and the unknown passerby then pulled Gironda to safety.

Yorktown Fire Department arrived on scene, and extinguished the fire.  Gironda was transported to Westchester Medical Center by Yorktown EMS with serious injuries.
