RED KNIGHTS MOTORCYCLE CLUB SPONSORS FIRST RIDE FOR KIDS WITH CANCER

Millbrook – Dutchess County’s own Red Knights NY-33 Motorcycle Club is no stranger to helping their neighbors.  The group, made up of both current and retired firefighters, are well known for their philanthropy for local causes.  When Hopewell based Love Holds Life Children’s Cancer Foundation approached the bikers for help, the connection was fast and strong.  On Sunday, April 29th, the Red Knights will be sponsoring the very first escorted Ride for Kids with Cancer at VFW Post 170 on Violet Avenue in Poughkeepsie.

For this first effort, a sponsored child from LHL was chosen to be honored at the event. Eleven-year-old Shania Kanz was born with Down’s Syndrome and diagnosed with ALL Leukemia in 2012. Her cancer is currently in remission and she’s enjoying life with her parents and twin sister.  Shania is excited to be present at the Ride for Kids with Cancer and may even take a mini ride with one of the club members. Shania’s twin sister Charlene will be presenting special awards to Dutchess County Sheriff Butch Anderson and Undersheriff Kirk Imperati in tribute to their advocacy on behalf of all of the children of Dutchess County.

All proceeds from this event will go directly to local Hudson Valley children who are battling cancer and their families to help pay for costs associated with their illness and not covered by insurance.  Dutchess County’s most popular cover band, The Differents, are donating their musical talents with fellow Hudson Valley keyboardist Mark Katz also performing. A custom photographer, Jaime Durant, will be on hand to capture special moments of the day.

Registration for the Ride for Kids with Cancer begins at 9:00 am with Kick Stands Up at 11:00 am. The cost is $25 per rider/$15 extra passenger or walkins/ $30 per carload.  Fees include light breakfast, a barbeque lunch, live music, ride pins and raffle prizes. The event will take place rain or shine.
