National acclaimed regional music group dazzle audiences with unique Americana music

PAWLING, NY — Red Rooster, the New York based folk collective headed by Jay Erickson and Nathaniel Zilkh, is a favorite of people from the Mid-Hudson Valley and beyond.  Giving free concerts and often playing with a host of musicians, Red Rooster brings people together.  The Akin Hall Assoc. takes pleasure at hosting Red Rooster at the Akin Free Library.  This the first concert of the season.   It is a benefit to support futures performances.

Jay Erickson and Nathaniel Zilkha will perform an acoustic act.

Jay and Nat both graduates of Princeton and current residents of Pawling, founded and currently head the Red Rooster band. They assume the roles of lead vocalist and lead guitarist, respectively.  The band was founded in 1998 as a primarily acoustic act, borrowing from bluegrass, blues, and folk, but has since evolved into a “highly original and eclectic band with a sound all on its own.” It maintains its roots in Americana yet showcases diverse influences from other genres of music such as gospel and hip hop.

By combining qualities from a broad mix of musical genres, Red Rooster contributes to defining the ever-growing, transforming American cultural landscape. Their music encapsulates everything “from Appalachia to the Delta to destinations unknown.” As described by Relix, they are a “…a unique patchwork quilt of musicians and influences—bluegrass, folk, country and other Levon Helm colors… …confident and patient Americana pace.”

It all began in kindergarten

Red Rooster has distinguished itself as a genre-breaking band, and as such has appeared at top performance venues such as the Newport Folk Festival. Their concert at the Akin Hall is not to be missed. The show is free, but donations are encouraged.
