Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr. reports the arrest of a seventeen-year-old Cold Spring resident on charges that he intentionally damaged property of another.

On Saturday, March 31, 2018, multiple complaints of Criminal Mischief were received by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and the Cold Spring Police Department after unknown persons had spent the overnight hours, Friday into Saturday, causing destruction and vandalism throughout the Villages of Cold Spring and Nelsonville.

Members from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and the Cold Spring Police Department canvassed the area and were able to secure surveillance footage from local businesses.

On April 4, 2018, after an investigation, investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 17-year-old male who lived in the area. He was charged with one count of felony Criminal Mischief for intentionally damaging the book deposit box at the Butterfield Library and one count of misdemeanor Criminal Mischief for intentionally damaging a basketball hoop owned by a private citizen on Kemble Avenue.

The investigation is continuing at this time and any citizens or business owners who have not yet been directly contacted by law enforcement and, who were victims of the vandalism, are encouraged to call the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and ask for Investigator Paul P. Piazza, Jr.

The teen was released pending an appearance in the Village of Cold Spring Justice Court on April 11, 2018.
