Putnam Sheriff’s Department Hosts Training Seminar

 

Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr. reports that on March 20, 2018, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office hosted an 8-hour in-service training seminar.

Topics covered in the seminar included, among other topics, Criminal and Drug Interdiction, Roadside Interview Techniques, Professionalism on the Traffic Stop and Legal Updates.

This training is part of Sheriff Langley’s continuing effort to combat the drug and opioid crisis plaguing our communities.

The training was conducted by Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Yela of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Division.

Deputy Yela is a 19-year law enforcement veteran with over 2000 narcotic arrests, including several arrests involving large seizures of marijuana, cocaine, and heroin. Deputy Yela has been a criminal interdiction officer, field training officer, canine handler and trainer for over 11 years.

This training was attended by 75 law enforcement officers representing 25 different agencies from Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties as well as the Cities of Danbury and Newtown Police in Connecticut.

This multi-agency training demonstrates the continued inter-agency cooperation and commitment in the battle against the drug crisis affecting too many families, and that knows no borders.
