New Lebanon, New York – On March 15, 2018, the New York State Police from the New Lebanon barracks prevented a suicidal child less than seventeen-years-old from jumping out of a third-story window.

Troopers were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to Darrow Road in the town of New Lebanon for a suicidal child.  Troopers quickly arrived and began to talk to the child.  However, additional arriving emergency personnel caused the child to become more upset.  Realizing this Troopers had all remaining vehicles stage out of sight.  Eventually, Troopers were able to negotiate meaningfully, and convince the child to leave the window ledge.

The child was then safely turned over to the Chatham Rescue Squad and transported to Berkshire Medical Center for a mental evaluation.
