Two vehicle fatal crash in Fishkill
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation into a car-box truck fatality which occurred on State Route 9D in the Town of Fishkill at approximately 9:00 am on 2/26/18.Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Honda Accord operated by Hilary R. Holmes (age 49 of Beacon) was northbound on Route 9D near Farmview Lane when the operator lost control. The Honda then struck a guide rail, after which it entered the southbound lane and struck a 2013 International box truck operated by William Velez (age 60 of NJ). The truck is owned by Cream O Land Dairy of Florence, NY and in addition to the driver was occupied by passenger Charles Jones (age 48 of NJ). Neither of the truck occupants were injured, and Mrs. Holmes was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner, the Town of Fishkill Police, the City of Beacon Fire Department, and the Castle Point Fire Department. At this time the primary factor in the crash is thought to be driver distraction on the part of Mrs. Holmes, however, the investigation is continuing by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit and more information may be released as it becomes available.
