State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in Stuyvesant

Stuyvesant, New York – On February 16, 2018, the New York State Police from the Kinderhook barracks are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash on State Highway 9J in the town of Stuyvesant.

On February 16, 2018, at approximately 4:02 a.m. the State Police received a report of a one-car rollover personal injury crash on State Highway 9J in the town of Stuyvesant.  Responding Troopers arrived to find the operator and sole occupant, Jason M. Sweet, age 35, of Castleton, NY, deceased.

Preliminary investigation shows Sweet’s vehicle was traveling southbound in the area of 1693 State Highway 9J and exited the roadway on the western shoulder for reasons unknown at this time.  The vehicle struck a guardrail, a utility pole then rolled and come to rest on the shoulder of the highway.

The New York State Police were assisted on scene by the Stuyvesant Fire Department, Columbia County Coroner’s Office, and National Grid.
