Obituary, Catherine Nan Carlile Powell

Catherine Nan Carlile Powell went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 74 at Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018. She was born the daughter of Gordon Stuart Carlile and Marianna Theresa [Costello] Carlile on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1943, in Sharon Hospital in the Village of Sharon, Township of Sharon, Litchfield County, Connecticut.

She was baptized as an infant in the Catholic Church in Dutchess County, New York. She lived on the family farm in the Hamlet of Wingdale, Town of Dover, Dutchess County, New York, until she was 8 years old. Her favorite animals were her brown and white horse, Ginger, and her Holstein cows, May, Bambi and Rainy. She attended elementary school in Dover Plains, Dutchess County, New York.

She moved to Craig Colony in Sonyea in 1952. Her father was the grounds supervisor and her mother was the supervising nurse of the Veeder Building. She attended elementary school in Geneseo and a Catholic school in Watertown. She began her employment at Craig Colony in Sonyea on Thursday, Dec. 20, 1962, as a housekeeper. She married Ronald Royce Powell on Saturday, June 06, 1964, in the Chapel of the Divine Compassion at Craig Colony in Sonyea. She and her husband, Ron, settled in Dansville where they were members of St. Mary’s Church. A son, Steven Michael Powell, was born to them on Friday, Sept. 17, 1965, in St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell. They moved to Nunda in 1986 where they attended the Oakland Wesleyan Church and Hunt Baptist Church. She was baptized in 2005 at the Perry Baptist Church in the Village of Perry.

She was predeceased by her loving father, Gordon Stuart Carlile, in January 1983, and her loving mother, Marianna Theresa [Costello] Carlile, in January 1993, and an infant brother. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Ronald Royce Powell, of Nunda., a son, Steven Michael Powell of Nunda, her sister, Patricia Ann Carlile Macaulay, of Vero Beach, Florida, a sister-in-law, Thelma Jean Radley of Pavilion, a brother-in-law, Robert Lee Craft and a sister-in-law, Linda Susan Powell Craft of Farmington, a sister-in-law, Brenda Dawn Powell Baker of Belmont, and a brother-in-law, Ricky Terrell Baker, Sr., of Buffalo, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

Calling hours will be on Friday Feb. 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. at 37 Chapel Street (Route 408), Mount Morris. Funeral services will be held on Saturday Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. at the Oakland Wesleyan Church in Nunda, with Pastor Paul Palmer officiating. Burial to follow in Section K in Oakwood Cemetery in Nunda. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oakland Wesleyan Church in Nunda and the American Lung Association at 1595 Elmwood Avenue # B1, Rochester, New York 14620. The family invites you to a dinner and fellowship following the service.
