Brewster man arrested for assault with a knife

Southeast, New York – On February 11, 2018, the New York State Police from the Brewster barracks arrested Manuel Estabon, age 43, of Brewster, for Assault in the 1st degree, a class B felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th degree, a class A misdemeanor.

On February 11, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Troopers received a call from a taxi driver that he had been assaulted by a customer with a knife.  An investigation determined that the victim was driving the suspect Estabon, to the bank to obtain payment for the taxi services.  Prior to reaching the bank Estabon assaulted the victim with a knife.  The victim suffered wounds to the face, neck, and hands but is in stable condition.  Estabon who fled the crime scene was located in a nearby wooded area.

Estabon was arraigned before the town of Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $150,000 cash bail or $300,000 bond.

The New York State Police were assisted on scene by the Putnam County Sherriff’s Office, Village of Brewster Police Department, and the Brewster-Southeast Joint Fire District ambulance crew.
