Troopers find Colorado man in possession of a loaded AR-15 during accident investigation

Sunday morning, January 21, 2018, State Police at Middletown responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on State Route 17 in the town of Goshen.  The investigation determined that Jeffrey Burns, age 35 of Fort Morgan, Colorado had driven his Chevrolet pickup off the roadway and struck a vehicle parked on the shoulder.  While interviewing Burns, Troopers determined that he was intoxicated.  Further investigation revealed that he was in possession of a loaded AR-15 style assault rifle.  Also in his possession were several magazines and several hundred rounds of ammunition.

Burns was placed under arrest and charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, felonies and Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor.  He was arraigned in the Town of Goshen Court and remanded to the Orange County Jail with no bail set.
