Cortlandt man arrested after using a fence post to damage vehicles and menace victim

Cortlandt, New York – On January 11, 2018 the New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks arrested Steven J. Cilento Jr., age 32, of Cortlandt, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3^rd degree, a class D felony, Criminal Mischief in the 3^rd degree, a class E felony, Menacing in the 2^nd degree, Criminal Mischief in the 4^th degree, and Resisting Arrest, all class A misdemeanors.

On January 11, 2018, at approximately 9:10 p.m., Troopers were dispatched to Broadway and 14^th Street in Verplanck for a report of a male screaming.  Once on scene Troopers confronted Cilento who approached and damaged the window of State Police patrol vehicle.  Cilento then fled on foot and later used a fence post to damage nearby vehicles.  Cilento also menaced a neighbor who exited their residence to see what the disturbance was.  After ignoring several commands to drop the fence post, Troopers utilized a taser in order to take Cilento into custody without further incident.

Cilento was arraigned before the town of Cortlandt Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail without bail.  Cilento is next scheduled to appear before the court on January 18, 2018, at 9:00 a.m.
