Kent Singers To Present English Coronation Music

WASHINGTON CT – The Kent Singers will present a concert of English coronation music on Sunday, April 12 at 3 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Washington. Kent Singers director Matt Travis will offer a pre-concert talk at 2:30 p.m.

Since the Renaissance, the festive and solemn occasion of the crowning of a King or Queen of England has inspired beautiful music celebrating the English spirit. Composers included in this program are William Byrd, Henry Purcell, Georg Frideric Handel, Hubert Parry, Benjamin Britten and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Renowned organist David Baranowski will accompany the group.

The Kent Singers, a small auditioned group of amateur singers from Litchfield County and the Pawling, NY area, has been performing since 1973. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, with children under 12 admitted free. Tickets and information are available at 860-619-8110 or www.kentsingers.org.
