Obituary, Margaret (Margie) Mary Staats

 

Millbrook – Margaret (Margie) Mary Staats, 88, of Millbrook, passed peacefully at home Sunday, December 24, 2017. She was born on June 5, 1929, in Queens, New York to Ernst August and Sophia Petersen. On March 12, 1955, Margaret married Henry George Staats at St. Marks Church, Jackson Heights, Queens. Margaret then moved to the family dairy farm, Echo Lake Farm, in Clinton Corners, New York. She previously worked as an administrative assistant in NYC and after moving to Clinton Corners worked as a teller at the Bank of Millbrook. After having children, she dedicated her life to her family and was the office manager for the farm. Margaret and Henry farmed until 1988 when Henry retired and they moved to Millbrook. Margaret and Henry enjoyed many years traveling and volunteering at the Lyall Memorial Federated Church. Margaret enjoyed spending time with family, baking cookies and pound cake, going to plays and listening to music.

Margaret is survived by her 3 children, Kathryn Zeyher and Bob Turner of Stanfordville, Christine Guido and her husband, Pat, of Hyde Park and Henry G. Staats, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Pine Plains; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Fay and her husband, Sean, Jordan Zeyher, Henry G. Staats, III and his wife Melissa and Aaron Zeyher and his wife, Brittney and 2 great-grandchildren, Spencer Zeyher and Nicholas Fay. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents and her brother, William Petersen.

The family wishes to thank Dawn Scott, Dot Barna and Corina Jackowski for their compassionate care, as well as the many other people who assisted over the years.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service in Margaret’s honor will be held at the Lyall Memorial Federated Church in Millbrook on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 10:00 am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lyall Memorial Federated Church or Millbrook Rescue Squad.
