State Police investigate fatal motor vehicle crash on Interstate 684 in Bedford

PRESS RELEASE

Bedford, New York – On December 30, 2017, the New York State Police from the Somers barracks investigated a fatal motor vehicle crash on Interstate 684.
At approximately 2:30 p.m.,  Troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 684, south of exit 4, involving six vehicles.  Preliminary investigation revealed that a box truck operated by Henry Valencia, age 59, of Bronx, NY, was unable to stop due to icy road conditions and struck another vehicle which was stopped in traffic.
The operator of the that vehicle Kerry Hamill, age 40, of Lee, MA, and a 3 year old male passenger, were both killed in the crash.  Hamill’s wife, Lauren Pellegrino, age 40, survived the crash and was transported to Westchester Medical Center for minor injuries.
The initial collision created a chain reaction involving four additional vehicles.  Occupants of the four additional vehicles were transported to local hospitals for minor injuries.
