Three-Car Crash in Southeast Sends Two Drivers to Hospital

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports that two drivers were hospitalized following a three-car crash in the Town of Southeast this afternoon (Friday). The crash occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Route 312 near the intersection of Zimmer Road.

According to preliminary reports, a man was driving alone in a Honda Pilot SUV in a westerly direction on Route 312 when his vehicle drifted across the midline of the road and into the opposite lane. The Honda sideswiped an eastbound Grand Cherokee SUV occupied by a male driver and three passengers, and then ran head-on into an eastbound Dodge pickup truck operated by a man traveling alone.

The drivers of the Honda and the Dodge sustained apparent trauma injuries to their chests and necks. The Honda driver was taken by ambulance to Danbury Hospital and the Dodge driver was transported to Putnam Hospital Center. Their injuries were not deemed to be life-threatening. The four occupants of the Grand Cherokee were not injured.

Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the crash scene by state troopers, the Brewster Volunteer Fire Department and Brewster Ambulance Corps, and EmStar paramedics.
