Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that Sheriff’s Patrols were dispatched by Columbia County 911 at approximately 6:49pm last night to an accident involving multiple vehicles in the parking lot of Coyote Flaco on State Route 9H/23, just north of Van Wyck Lane in the Town of Claverack.

Deputy Sheriff’s found that a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban, operated by 73 year old Ronald E. Moore of Stuyvesant, was traveling northbound on State Route 9H/23 and for unknown reasons left the east side of the roadway about 250 feet south of the Coyote Flaco parking lot. The vehicle continued traveling in a northerly direction and into the parking lot where the suburban struck an occupied 2015 Jeep, operated by 54 year old Steven A. Hart of Hudson. The impact pushed the Jeep into two unoccupied vehicles, a 2015 Toyota Highlander and a 2011 Toyota Sienna, and the 2011 Toyota then struck an unoccupied 2010 Kia station wagon.

Greenport Rescue Squad transported Mr. Moore, who was the sole occupant in the suburban, to Columbia Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Mr. Hart was also transported by Greenport Rescue Squad to Columbia Memorial Hospital for chest pain. There were no passengers in his vehicle.

The accident is still under investigation by Sheriff’s Deputies and Investigators.

Coroner Bertram is also assisting with this investigation. An autopsy has been scheduled for this morning at Ellis Hospital.

Greenport Rescue Squad and Claverack Fire Company assisted at the scene.

Investigating for the Sheriff’s Office were Sheriff David Bartlett, Undersheriff John Davi, Captain John DeRocha, Sr. Investigator William Foster, Investigator Patrick Logue, Sergeant Eli Fieser, Deputy Daniel Keyser, and Deputy Patrick McMahon
