Bridge Work Completion on Hollow Road in Clinton Highlights
Productive County Road and Bridge Project Season
Poughkeepsie…The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced work on Bridge C-19, located on Hollow Road (CR 14) over the Little Wappinger Creek in the Town of Clinton, is complete and the road has reopened to traffic on schedule and within budget. The completion of the Bridge C-19 project highlights 20 significant engineering and highway projects undertaken by DPW in 2017. DPW engineers worked closely with contractor partners throughout the busy construction season to ensure projects were completed on or close to schedule and within budget.
“We thank our dedicated team at DPW for their efforts throughout the year to maintain and improve our roadways and bridges, making travel safe for residents and visitors throughout Dutchess County. We also extend our appreciation to the public for their patience as we worked to complete these projects. The continued preservation and upkeep of our roadways is essential to the safety, ridability and long-term sustainability of our highway system,” said County Executive Marc Molinaro.
Bridge C-19 project work began in the summer and involved the replacement of the existing bridge and abutments, improvements to the existing curve across the bridge, widened travel lanes and shoulders, and the installation of new stone parapets to maintain the historical landscape of the area surrounding the bridge. Bridge C-19 averages approximately 1,500 vehicles per day.
In 2017, the DPW-Engineering Division completed seven bridge, culvert and/or drainage improvement projects including:
• Bridge PO-15X rehabilitation project on New Hamburg Road (CR 28) in Wappinger
• Bridge RH-25 replacement project on Broadway (CR 78) in Tivoli
• Bridge M-7 replacement project on Academy Hill Road (CR 51) in Milan
• Bridge C-19 replacement project on Hollow Road (CR 14) in Clinton
• Bridge C-22 rehabilitation project on Clinton Hollow Road (CR 18) in Clinton
• Culvert PV-14 replacement project on Sherow Road (CR 73) in Pleasant Valley
• Storm drainage improvement and extension project on Old Quaker Hill Road (CR 66) in Pawling
In 2017, the DPW-Highway Division completed 13 resurfacing projects including:
• 1.5 miles of Sharon Station Road (CR 1), Towns of Amenia and North East
• 1 mile of West Dover Road (CR 20), Town of Dover
• 1.62 miles of Dutchess Hill Road (CR 40), Town of Hyde Park
• 1.15 miles of Crum Elbow Road (CR 41), Town of Hyde Park
• 1.7 miles of Freedom Road (CR 47), Towns of LaGrange and Pleasant Valley
• 1.98 miles of South Amenia Road/Bog Hollow Road (CR 3), Town of Amenia
• 2 miles of Boston Corners Road (CR 63), Town of North East
• 2.68 miles of Old Quaker Hill Road (CR 66), Town of Pawling
• 0.98 miles of Innis Avenue (CR 75), Town of Poughkeepsie
• 2 miles of Morton Road (CR 85), Town of Rhinebeck
• 1.87 miles of Waterbury Hill Road (CR 89), Town of Union Vale
• 1.3 miles of Creek Road (CR 100), Town of Hyde Park
• 1.02 miles of Dutcher Avenue (CR 69), Town of Pawling
With the conclusion of the paving and construction season, DPW Highway crews focus shifts to snow and ice removal on county roads over the next several months. Motorists are reminded to be mindful of crews and roadway conditions to ensure the safety of all.
