Obituary, Richard Schumacher III

 

Dover Plains – Richard Schumacher III, 75 of Dover Plains, passed away, Saturday November 25, 2017, peacefully at home following a nine year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Born in Long Island, NY on December 14, 1941, he was the son of the late Richard Schumacher Jr. and Shirley Neurohr.

Richard attended Hobart College and served his country with the United States Air Force from 1962-1966.

He began his career with IBM which lasted over 30 years. Upon his retirement from IBM, he joined Abilities First, Inc. of Poughkeepsie, where he was a computer specialist.

On October 11, 2003 at St. James Episcopal Church in Dover Plains, he married Sharon Hundley. Mrs. Schumacher survives at home.

Mr. Schumacher was a parishioner of Grace Episcopal Church in Millbrook where he served as Senior Warden and participated in all church activities and functions. He served as the Director of Acolytes, was a Eucharistic Minister, and was instrumental in starting the church pancake dinners. He also served on the sick call committee.

In addition to his wife Sharon, Richard is survived by his two children, Richard “Rick” Schumacher and his wife Kristen of NJ and Kimberly Schumacher of SC; his step children, Richard Lombardo and his wife Dawn of ME., and James Lombardo and his wife Sara of CA.; his grandson Bennet Schumacher; his 2 step grandchildren, Jacob and Lucas Lombardo; his brothers, Robert Schumacher and his wife Joan of CA. and William Schumacher CA; his sister, Jane Hammond and her husband Mark of CO.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 30 from 3 – 7 pm at 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 1 at 11 am from Grace Episcopal Church, 3328 Franklin Ave., Millbrook. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made in Richard’s memory to Grace Episcopal Church Organ Fund.
