DCC Partners with Alfred State College
to Offer Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

November 17, 2017 – Beginning in January 2018, associate degree-prepared registered nurses will be able to earn a bachelor’s degree in Nursing locally, through a partnership between Dutchess Community College and Alfred State College, another SUNY institution recognized for its outstanding nursing program. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) opportunity is open to graduates of DCC’s Nursing program who are licensed nurses as well as other RNs seeking a four-year degree.

The innovative collaboration provides convenience and affordability. Students will complete 64 credits, with some general education courses available through DCC and specialized courses delivered by Alfred State College faculty at the DCC main campus. A short residency also will be required at Alfred State College.

The need for RNs to complete a bachelor’s degree has intensified. A national goal is to increase the proportion of nurses with baccalaureate degrees to 80% by 2020 and hospitals and other medical facilities are increasingly hiring nurses who have earned a BSN.

“More than 5,000 nurses have graduated from DCC’s nursing program since its inception,” said Dr. Pamela Edington, president of Dutchess Community College. “For those who have been unable to continue their education due to family, work or financial obligations, this innovative collaboration with Alfred State College provides convenience, affordability and flexibility. It reflects the College’s commitment to meet the needs of individuals, local employers and our community.”

Space in the program is limited and registration will begin soon. To get on a mailing list to receive information about the program visit www.sunydutchess.edu/bsn.
