A Far Cry

A Far Cry, an 18-member string orchestra, has been described by The New York Times as “brimming with personality.” Based in Boston, the group tours widely while maintaining strong roots in the city, notably as Chamber Orchestra in Residence at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

The “Criers,” founded in 2007, are self-conducted and – except for the cellists – perform standing. Their repertoire ranges from Bach, Mozart, Elgar, and Tchaikovsky to Bartok, Piazolla, and Arvo Pärt. According to reviewers, their performance mixes “solemn and snappy” with “extroversion.”
