Kildonan School celebrates Dyslexia Awareness Month

OCTOBER IS DYSLEXIA AWARENESS MONTH –  Kildonan and Dyslexic Days 2017

AMENIA– The Kildonan School and Dyslexic Days 2017 are holding a two-day event on October 20th and 21st to spread awareness during October, Dyslexia Awareness Month. Come join us at The Kildonan School, 425 Morse Hill Rd., Amenia, New York.

The event will feature a panel, specialist teachers, and student advocates. Special Guests include:  Academy Award Winning Director Susan Raymond, School Stories Producer Stephen Polk, NY Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon, Representative for Assembymember Didi Barrett, Ulster County Legislator Carl Belfiglio and co-writers of Ulster County Dyslexia Resolution #218 Evelyn Whitebay and Barbara Vivolo, Co-Founder of Decoding Dyslexia NY, and Kildonan Headmaster Kevin Pendergast.

 

Schedule of events for Friday evening, October 20, 2017 from 6 – 8 pm:

  • Come meet with Legislators that took legislation action in the state capitol after hearing from students, parents and teachers who told their stories in Albany.
  • See a sneak peek of a new movie School Stories  by LA filmmaker Stephen Polk.
  • Engage in discussion with a panel of specialist teachers, and student advocates.
  • Learn about the new Dyslexia Law and advances in identifying, teaching and supporting dyslexic learners.
  • Be briefed on the new Parent/Educator Dyslexia Coalition supporting a broader understanding and support of dyslexia in schools.

Return on Saturday October 21, 2017 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.

  • 9 am – 1 pm: Tell Your Dyslexia Story! Share your struggles, strategies, and successes; parents, students and educators talk about their experiences.
  • 1 – 4 pm: See a special screening with LA filmmaker Stephen Polk of School Stories  – Identifying Dyslexia.
