Lecture at DCC to Focus on Eleanor Roosevelt’s
Impact on Women’s Leadership
October 3, 2017 – Dr. Allida Black, research professor of history and international affairs at George Washington University, will deliver a lecture called “Staying Aloof is Not a Solution: Eleanor Roosevelt’s Call to Action” on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. in the James and Betty Hall Theatre on the Dutchess Community College main campus. The lecture is being sponsored by the Handel Foundation Endowed Faculty Chair to Perpetuate the Legacy of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt.
Black will discuss how Roosevelt inspired and emboldened women to assume leadership roles. She has written a number of articles and is the author of books including “Casting Her Own Shadow: Eleanor Roosevelt and the Shaping of Postwar Liberalism.”
DCC Assistant Professor of English Dr. Tina Iraca and Geology Professor Susan Conrad facilitated the lecture, which is free and open to the public.
